Scotch-Brite Greener Clean #Giveaway!

Scotch-Brite Greener Clean Absorbent Sponges

I have used Scotch-Brite brand sponges for as long as I can remember - one for dishes and one for cleaning counters and usually go through each sponge about every 2-3 weeks (then we reuse them until they really fall apart for cleaning the bathroom, floors, outdoor things...). I am also trying to use more and more eco-friendly products and when I found these I was pretty excited to try them. First of all they are made of natural and recycled paper materials - a big plus since sponges are usually made of synthetic, non renewable materials. Second, these are BIODEGRADEABLE! So you don't have to worry about a negative effect on the environment. Third - these sponges work really well! They really are super-absorbant to soak up spills (and just wring it out to wipe things down) and work better than a dishrag! They are pretty soft too which means they won't scratch dishes, table tops or anything else.  And when it gets a little stinky, we put it in the dishwasher to freshen it up but you could also hand wash it in laundry soap and sometimes soak it in vinegar then hot water to eliminate germs. I have been using these sponges for a few months now and they hold up very well (longer than synthetic sponges I think). If this lasts longer than the average sponge, then not only is it a "GREENER" sponge but it will save some green as well if I don't have to buy them as frequently! :)

I wanted to use a more environmentally friendly automatic dishwashing detergent and tried a few different brands. Earth Month Day 19: Educational Insights Giveaway

Awesome Colored Smencil Giveaway to new Educational Insights fans!

I discovered Educational Insights last year during a Twitter party and became a fan on their Facebook page. I ended up winning their Laundry Jumble game and I was so excited!  My kids were even more excited and really love playing the game.  I learned more about their toys and absolutely love their products and their educational value.  They're products blend education and fun in the best possible ways!  They even have a new table-top clear compost container so kids can actually see things break down into soil! (more on this in a later post...)

Today I found out that they have a great little giveaway for Earth Day - For Earth Week, they will give away their Colored Smencil - scented pencils made of 100% recycled newspaper and wrapped in individual biodegradable tubes - to EVERY new Facebook fan who posts a hello on our site AND to the friend who referred them will receive one free Smencil!

Green your YEAR! ...v2011

Happy New Year! Let's resolve to make it a GREEN one!

Every New Year we all make resolutions to make our year better, healthier, happier... how about making it Greener as well!  This year I resolve to discover new ways to live more eco-friendly and support my local producers of eco-friendly products and organic food.  I also resolve to share these ideas and information more with family, friends and fellow bloggers, tweeps and followers!  I hope to blog more often and start building my other blog, "Made in My State", all about going local and learning about the products that are made in each of the 50 States to help us all go local!  I also plan to start a new website that I am keeping secret for now but it will promise a great, fun service for kids and parents. (I'll keep you posted!)

So now, to get ideas for future blog posts, I am asking my readers to post comments on how you all plan to be GREENER in 2011...  I will select as many comments as possible to highlight in future blog posts so give me some interesting comments!!  ALSO, just to encourage more posts, I will throw in a GIVEAWAY too!
